Plans for super casino revealed

Blueprints for Blackpool’s super casino are being unveiled for the first time.

The proposals, which include plans for a hotel, spa and conference centre, will be on display in Blackpool’s Central Car Park off Seasiders Way.

Urban regeneration company ReBlackpool is urging stakeholders and residents to view the plans, which form the first step in the application process.

Members of the consultancy team will be at the viewings from noon until 1900 BST and on Thursday until 1700 BST.

Internet gambling and super-casinos will cause an explosion in gambling addiction, doctors say.

The British Medical Association’s annual conference called for research into prevention and treatment to cope with the increasing problem.

They said in recent years it had become easier to gamble.

Lavish Phantom opens in Las Vegas

A lavish production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera has opened in Las Vegas.

It reportedly cost $75m (£41m) to stage, including $40m to create a replica of the Paris Opera house inside the Venetian hotel.

"It’s a very different experience," said Lord Lloyd-Webber on the new version of his musical.

Director Howard Prince said: "They wanted surprises, we gave them surprises."

WITHIN an hour of logging on to an internet gambling site, Richard Mahan had won ÂŁ90,000. But his luck soon changed and, ignoring the sage advice of gamblers everywhere, he tried to claw his way back.

He used 13 of his parents’ credit cards and, as he gambled into the early hours, ran up debts of £158,000. Mahan, 25, then tried to kill himself in what is believed to be Scotland’s worst case of internet gambling addiction.

Super-casino idea to be debated

People living in Sheffield are being given the chance to have their say on proposals to bring the UK’s first Las Vegas-style "super-casino" to the city.

Sheffield is one of eight sites shortlisted for a super-casino with unlimited jackpots.

A public meeting has now been organised to give residents a chance to discuss the possible impact on the city.

Organiser Cllr Jillian Creasy (Green) said a growing number of people were expressing concerns over the plans.
