Dome super-casino ‘not done deal’

Another story from the BBC:

It is not a "done deal" that the UK’s first super-casino will be sited at the Millennium Dome, the head of the Casino Advisory Panel has insisted.

The Dome is considered the frontrunner but "no decision" has been taken on that location over any other, said Professor Stephen Crow.

His comments follow accusations of bias towards the Dome from rival bidders.

Prof Crow also said John Prescott’s stay at Dome owner Philip Anschutz’s ranch would not influence his decision.

Casino not done deal for Dome, says inquiry chief

More from The Times Online:

THE head of the panel that will choose the location of Britain’s first supercasino insisted last night that the race was still wide open.

Stephen Crow, chairman of the Casino Advisory Panel, said that the controversial stay by John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister, at the US ranch of Philip Anschutz, the owner of the Dome, would not influence the panel’s decision-making process.

He made a staunch defence of his panel’s independence and poured scorn over suggestions that the Anschutz bid had been given some kind of tacit go-ahead.

Political reporter, BBC News, Jury’s Hotel, London

He is a lay preacher, has a slightly grandfatherly-demeanour and a voice that sounds uncannily like that of TV entertainer and raconteur Denis Norden.

Prof Stephen Crow says the closest he gets to gambling is a "very occasional flutter" at his local church raffle.
